About the event

TACTILE Group, Inc. presents VERAfied!

This event is to honor the birthday, book launch, and contributions Professor Emerita Vera J. Katz has made in theatre and the arts, as well as the impact that she has had in the lives of her beloved students throughout her nearly six-decade-long career.

Theatre enthusiasts, friends, family, and Professor Katz's most celebrated alumni will gather for a celebration to honor an industry legend. The event will take place at Howard University, a historic black university, at the Chadwick A. Boseman School of Fine Arts. The event will highlight the 56-year journey of Professor Emerita of Howard University and her commitment to the  African American Community in the Arts.

THE BOOK

Vera J. Katz's highly anticipated book: A Katz Walk “A Toolbox of Techniques for Actors and Directors”, Foreword by Tony Award Winner Phylicia Rashad is set to serve as a significant contribution to the artistic disciplines of acting and directing, especially as it relates to the strength of the "Black Experience”. This addition to Katz's oeuvre will indelibly increase the value of education offered by Performing Arts Programs in the Black Community while working to shape the careers of aspiring and professional actors, directors, and teachers world round.

THE HONOREE

Professor Emerita Vera J. Katz is a courageous and determined advocate for black voices and their culture. Her passion for African Americans to be heard, seen, and portrayed with accuracy and dignity in theater, television and film became the battle cry. The audacious and arduous task of developing the FIRST undergraduate accreditation Directing Program at a historically black university (HBCU) in the nation at the time of its conception, was made a reality after much hard work. The goal to establish well-trained directors and actors proved to change the trajectory of her students and the landscape of Hollywood.
